On the steps of Jesus Christ
Lebanon, the land of prayer and devotion, was mentioned over 70 times in the Bible. It is a country where the feet of Jesus Christ have trod. Moreover, the first of the seven miraculous "signs" by which Jesus's divine status is attested took place in Cana, south of Tyre, the turning of a large quantity of water into wine at a wedding feast, when the wine provided by the bridegroom had run out. Jesus visited the "coasts" of Tyre and Sidon and from this region many came forth to hear him preaching. There, Jesus revealed to them His purpose to build His Church and to go to Jerusalem to die and be resurrected. It was on a peak of Mount Hermon that the Transfiguration took place, where Jesus took three of His disciples, Peter, James, and John, up on a high mountain for prayer. Before their eyes, Jesus was transfigured. He became radiantly white and conversed with Moses and Elijah, who had appeared beside Him. The disciples’ amazement and fear were further increased, when a voice from heaven exclaimed, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!".
From the North to the South of the country, along the costal roads and the plain of the Beqaa, Christian sites have been cut into the stone of precipitous cliffs or perched on the heights of mountains overlooking endless valleys. Small, modest churches have been constructed on rock, in the hollow of a pine forest, on the breast of a hill, in the shade of an olive or an oak tree.
